Turó de Can Mates Park

Turó de Can Mates Park

The city's largest park offers stunning views and features giant slides for children, surrounded by holm oaks and Mediterranean shrubs.

It is the city’s largest urban park and is particularly well known amongst children as the park with the giant slides. The space features a variety of walking routes combined with points of scenic and social interest. The park was designed to preserve the area’s natural features: agricultural landscapes, streams and woodland. It is home to holm oaks, oaks and Mediterranean shrubs. In the eastern part of the park, there are large terraced areas reminiscent of the old terraced farmland with its geometric plantings of fruit trees, elms, ash trees and so on. Today, these have been transformed into spaces for play, picnics and sporting activities, reinforcing the transition between the city and the rural surroundings. To the west, the park gives way to a Mediterranean mosaic landscape featuring a hill that serves as a viewpoint, offering panoramic views across the entire town. Here, the park incorporates a sophisticated water management system, comprising drainage channels, dry ponds, infiltration basins and an underground reservoir to regulate heavy rainfall. From the highest point of the park, at around 178 metres, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Sant Cugat and the Montserrat mountain. Points of interest: Summit of the Turó de Can Mates: at the highest point of the hill, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view. In 2017, Pep Codó’s sculpture *La rosa de los vientos* was installed, becoming an iconic spot for contemplation.
